Martin KIman

Martin Kiman (1985), Košice, Slovakia. Kiman is also active under a pseudonym Reus K and his works can be found in a number of cities around Europe. He is currently working on a series of large graffiti works in Sweden.

The thematic shifts and evolving style within the artist's work are unified by his commitment to painting without an external model. The canvases emerge from a blend of psychological automatism, expressive declarations, and the visual formulation of non-visual stimuli. These stimuli can be anything from a musical score to a number or a piece of wordplay.

Kiman’s paintings are a rich tapestry of interwoven fragments, subtly hinting at figural, geometric, and organic elements. Ultimately, he employs a unique visual language to translate subjects that simply cannot be captured by a camera.

Martin Kiman brings a distinctive program of postmodern concepts to the contemporary visual arts discourse through the classical medium of painting. He works with an expressive aesthetic of poster-like colors, a style already familiar in the Slovak art scene, but elevates it to a new position he calls “psychological systematization.”
